The Minimum Off-Route Altitude (MORA) is an altitude that provides obstacle clearance within 10 nm on both sides of an airway and within a 10 nm radius around the ends of the airway. The minimum vertical distance between the MORA and the highest obstacle along the route is either 1,000 ft or 2,000 ft, depending on the elevation of the terrain and obstacles below:
| Terrain / obstacles height | Obstacle clearance |
|---|---|
| ≤ 5,000 ft | 1,000 ft |
| > 5,000 ft | 2,000 ft |
The MORA may be given as a flight level instead of an altitude.
